At the beginning of November, in his home at Geneva Lake, in his 98 years of age, Gioko Viktor Ruzic passed away. He was one of the last male offshoots of the prominent Rijeka's (Sušak's) family: benefactor and Rotarian.
Eight years ago my caption was published on the occasion of his 90th anniversary and reception of apposited medal: to my thoughts then it has a little of to add ...
In this rotary year the Rotary Club Rijeka celebrates a quarter-century of serving to the community!
With its action, we have continued to follow the vision of Rotary Club Sušak, whose tradition goes back for 88 years.
This we will do with series of activities in days from 19th to 21th April 2018.

Dear ladies and gentlemen, friends,
Taking the lead of the club represents a special honour for each Rotarian, especially in this year. The moment that you are suggested as the new leader of the club is a precious one. It is the moment when others put their trust in you, whereas you in return accept that trust. And you must strive to deserve it. And no matter how much we prepare ourselves for that moment ever since entering the Rotary world, we receive it unprepared.
Oleg Mandić was born a dissident. His father, also Oleg Mandić, one of the leaders of the national revival in Opatija and Rijeka, decided that his heir would not be born in Volosko, a town nearby under the Italian occupation, but in free Sušak (district in Rijeka). This is how politics began to shape the life and name of Oleg Mandić already before his birth. The laws of the time imposed for all newborns to wear an Italian name, with the exemption of names given in the heat of the moment (e.g. father naming his son after him). Such names needed to be “Italianized”, i.e.
The library of the Paediatric Clinic of the Kantrida Children’s Hospital held a press conference which presented results of the charity and benefit concert BE HERE 2016, organized by the Rotary Club Rijeka. President of the Rotary Club Rijeka, Sandro Viškanić, gave a donation of HRK 105,000 to Head of the clinic, Prof. Sandro Dessardo, PhD, as it was raised by the campaign and benefit concert that was held in December last year at the Croatian National Theater “Ivan pl. Zajc” in Rijeka.
Our Rotary club Rijeka organized the fifth benefit concert “Be here” on 4 December in the crowded Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc featuring local music stars Damir Kedžo, Mia Negovetić and Vanna. Their performance at this traditional concert of a humanitarian nature impressed the packed audience of all generations, which was awarding the artists with frequent rounds of applause throughout the concert. At the very beginning of the evening the audience was addressed by the Governor of the Rotary District 1913, Goran Račić, President of the Rotary Club of Rijeka, Sandro Viškanić, and Prof. Goran Palčevski, Head of the Department of Pediatrics of the Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka, who specifically welcomed all children in the audience.
Behind us is the 111th anniversary of Rotary International and the 25th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Rijeka, one of the most successful years of our Rotary Club. We are part of Rotary family, which has 1.2 million of rotarians in 28,000 clubs in 160 countries of the world what I consider of a great honor and privilege.

Is it beneficial to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Is it fair to all concerned?
